Creating Templates for Publisher3D with Pages3D
Creating a Template in Pages3D
Pages3D is a full 3D capable authoring environment. Pages3D allows you to create complete multi page documents complete with interactive 3D views and other interactive elements. To create a template with Pages3D you are really just creating a regular Page3D document and saving it as a template.
Customizing an existing Publisher3D template
To create a custom template that is based on a stock Publisher3D template:
Customize an existing Template
- Run Pages3D
- Select “New From Template”
- Select the “Publisher3D” Category
- Select one of the template packages
- Use the left and right buttons under the template page preview to find the Page Template that you want
- Select the “Use This Page Only” Text box
- Press Next
- Press Browse and select a 3D model to work with. Note: The 3D Model will NOT be included as part of the template, but loading a 3D model is necessary to make sure that all components are working correctly and for capturing an attractive template image.
- Press Finish
This will create a single page document in Pages3D. You can make your changes to the template, then save it as a custom Share3D PDF template as described below.

Saving a Template for Publisher3D
Templates for Publisher3D are saved as .QST (QuadriSpace Template) files. QST files are also used for defining templates for use in Pages3D. QST files must be marked as Publisher3D enabled when creating the QST file. A QST file consists of a set of pages. In Publisher3D, each page will define a separate template. Note that QST files do NOT save the 3D model but do save an image of the page with the current 3D model visible.
Save a Template for use in Publisher3D from Pages3D
- Select Application Menu - > Save As -> QuadriSpace Template
- On the File Save Dialog, you MUST set the Template Type to Share3D PDF Template. If this is not correctly set, then Share3D will ignore the template file.
- Enter the Template Name and Description (This is a name for the template library group, see the information on Page Names above)
- It is recommend that you change directories to the default Publisher3D user template location by moving up one directory and selecting the Publisher3D directory. If you save to this directory then the template will automatically be available the next time you run Publisher3D on this computer. If you do not save to this location, please see the section on adding templates to Share3D PDF.
- Enter the filename and press Save.
Note that Pages3D will create a thumbnail for each page in the template. While doing this, Pages3D will visibly change between each page in the document. Please do not iconize or place another program on top of Pages3D during this process. Doing so may result in bad template icons.
Adding Templates to Publisher3D
Import a Custom Template into Publisher3D
- To import custom templates into Publisher3D, users can select the Publish Ribbon, click on the pull-down arrow next to the Template gallery and then select the option “Import Templates…” This will bring up a browse dialog so the specific QST can be selected.
- Once the QST is imported, each individual page in the QST will appear as a template choice in the Template Gallery.
Note that QST Files must be tagged as Publisher3D Templates when saving them in Pages3D or they will be ignored by Publisher3D.
